Un-plugging a clogged sink or tub drain:

Tools & Materials: Plunger, a few small rags, C-clamp, two small blocks of wood

Un-plugging a sink drain: First, remove the stopper. Use small wet rags and plug any overflow valve opening. Now, fill the sink just enough to cover the bottom of the plunger. With the plunger over the drain opening, push the plunger down. You may need to repeat the process if the drain is still clogged.

Un-plugging a kitchen sink drain: If the sink is a double compartment sink then close off the other drain. If there is a dishwasher attached to the drain you will have to close off the drain hose to the dishwasher using a C-clamp and two pieces of wood on each side of the hose (sandwiching it between the two blocks of wood). Use small wet rags and stuff them in any overflow valve opening. Now, fill the sink with water just enough to cover the very bottom of the plunger. With the plunger over the drain opening, push the plunger up & down. You may need to repeat the process if the drain is still clogged.

Un-plugging the bathtub drain: If your bathtub has a stopper, then remove it. Pack a wet rag into the overflow valve at the head of the tub. Now fill the tub with water just enough to cover the bottom of the plunger. With the plunger over the drain opening, push the plunger up & down. You may need to repeat this process if the drain is still clogged.
